Russian Railways concludes first joint project with Iran

Russian Railways (RR) has concluded the first project for electrification of the Tabriz-Azarshahr Railway. RR Chief Vladimir Yakunin attended the ceremony of launching the railway, RIA Novosti reports.The electrified railway is about 46 km long and has 5 stations. It will transport students for the Pedagogue University of Azarshahr.

Russian Railways invested 18.6 billion rubles in Sochi railways

The Russian Railways Company has spent 18.6 billion rubles on construction of a combined road and railway from Adler to the Alpika Service Resort, RIA Novosti reports.A second Sochi-Adler-Veseloye railway will be built.Six tunnel complexes have been drilled, having a total length of 25.5 km. 24 km of the top section from the southern tunnel complex N3 were built.The railway line from Adler to Sochi Airport will be launched in February.

The Gyumri State Technical College has opened an education and training center with support of the South Caucasus Railway (SCR), News Armenia reports.The center has a railway of 10 meters, equipment and details. All facilities there are operational, Director General of the SCR Victor Rebets said.Armenian Minister for Education and Science Armen Ashotyan noted that cooperation with the SCR is essential. The company invests in education and helps train staff.

Medvedev wants privatization of Rosneft, Sberbank

Rosneft must be put out of state control before 2016, Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev said at the governmental session, RIA Novosti reports.The prime minister added that the list of companies for full or partial privatization includes Sovkomflot, VTB, United Grain Company, Rosagroleasing, Rosnano and Russian Railways.Medvedev ordered Vice Premier Igor Shuvalov to discuss privatization of Sberbank. He added that it is better to be cautious.

The Russian Railways company will spend over 112.6 billion on the development of rail infrastructure in the Krasnodar Territory, Yuga.ru reports.President of the Russian Railways Vladimir Yakunin signed a deal on cooperation with Governor of the Krasnodar Territory Alexander Tkachyov within the framework of the 7th International Railway Business Forum “Strategic Partnership 1520”.Investments will be spent on construction and reconstruction of railway infrastructure for the 22nd Winter Olympic Games in Sochi in 2014.

Journalists to test Lastochka trains in Sochi

The Russian Railways Company will present the Lastochka trains for guests and participants of the Olympic Games 2014 in Sochi, RIA Novosti reports.The presentation of the electric trains will be held within the framework of the 7th International Railway Business Forum “Strategic Partnership 1520”. Journalists will be the first to test out the train running from the railway station to Sochi International Airport.

Rossotrudnichestvo and SCR to cooperate in education

The South Caucasian Railway and the office of Rossotrudnichestvo have signed an agreement to cooperate on education and humanitarian programs, News Armenia reports.Vyacheslav Kovalenko, Russian Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador to Armenia, met freshmen of Russian higher education centers in Armenia studying the Russian language and delegates of the 2nd assembly of the Armenian Association of Russian-Language Teachers in Comprehensive Schools.

New logistical company to be formed within SES

Russia, Kazakhstan and Belarus plan to found a logistical railway company within the framework of Single Economic Space (SES), President of Russian Railways Vladimir Yakunin said, News Kazakhstan reports.The official said that the initiative has already been discussed with Kazakhstan. Yakunin said that he ordered Peter Baskakov, head of TransContainer, to organize negotiations with Belarusian Railways. It would not be a subsidiary of TransContainer, but a new structure of the three states.

Russian carriages to replace Azerbaijani ones on Baku-Moscow route

 Azerbaijani Railways is planning to repair its carriages operating on passenger routes to Moscow and Saint-Petersburg. Russian carriages will replace them meanwhile, Trend reports.Russian Railways started replacing Azerbaijani carriages on the Baku-Moscow route on February 15. Russian carriages will start servicing the Baku-St. Petersburg route on February 29. The Baku-Moscow train (N55/56) will operate for two instead of three times a week, starting on March 24.

Iran sanctions 'will not harm' Russian railway projects

EU sanctions against Iran would not harm the realization of railway projects, President of the Russian Railways Vladimir Yakunin said, RIA Novosti reports.Foreign ministers of 27 EU states met in Brussels on January 23 and approved the embargo on Iranian oil exports. The new package of sanctions includes a gradual ban on imports of petroleum from Iran. The embargo will come into full force on July 1.

New Middle East Envoy of Russia appointed

Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov was appointed new presidential envoy to the Middle East, RIA-Novosti reports referring to the Kremlin press-service.Bogdanov will replace Alexander Saltanov, who became last year vice president in charge of international affairs at the state monopoly Russian Railways.Bogdanov, 59, a graduate of the prestigious Moscow State Institute of International Relations, entered the diplomatic service in 1974 and served in Yemen, Lebanon, Syria and Israel.

Medvedev appoints new special envoy for Middle East

Russian President Dmitry Medvedev has appointed Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov as Special Presidential Envoy to the Middle East, RIA Novosti reports.Bogdanov will replace Alexander Saltanov who became Vice-President for International Affairs of the Russian Railways a few months ago. Saltanov was the predecessor of Bogdanov in the Foreign Ministry.

SCR and BFI sign deal on railway freighting

Director General of the South Caucasus Railways (SCR), Shevket Shaydullin, and Director General of Black Sea Ferry and Investment, Khokim Matchanov, have signed a deal on regulation of railway freighting, News Armenia reports.

Intercity train station opened in Yerevan

New platform of the South Caucasus Railways has been opened in Yerevan on 5 August. The stop Almast is located near the Almast plant in the Kanaker-Zeitoun district, News Armenia reports.With the opening of a new platform Yerevan gains an alternative route to the Lake Sevan.The platform "Almast" was closed in 2006 and now restored upon the request of citizens.The South Caucasus Railways is a 100% subsidiary of the Russian Railways company.

Adler-Sukhumi railway re-established

The railway between the Russian city of Adler and the Abkhazian city of Sukhum is re-established. Work cost on the project 2 billion rubles, Russian Vice Premier Alexander Zhukov said today, as he officially opened the railway, Yuga.ru reports.
